A Visit...

My father-in-law would have been 80 this past week so hubby and I decided to go to ''the hill'' where we scattered his ashes and have a visit with him yesterday... that was his wish to be scattered there on a windy day so we did and we had a swig out of a rum bottle as that was his favourite tipple...
so hubby and I went for a drive down to see him
and apple pie was his favourite sweet so I made that to have with our mini barbie...

getting the barbie going before
we climb this...
can you see the two goats up there?
 the view from the top
 our barbie way down there...
and the bottle of rum we left up there 18 months ago...
looks like the goats have peed and pooed all over it
and no we didn't have another swig we just put it back in the little hole...
bacon, eggs and onion in a sandwich
 and apple pie for sweets...

Bits and Pieces...

It has been cold and wet here yesterday a good day to stay inside and sew...
yesterday I started turning these strips
into rows for quilts for Aussie Heroes but the wont be made into quilt tops until I have added some applique to the rows and joined them together... I am hoping to have maybe three quilts... and I am not sure when I will have them all finished as I am off to Perth on Monday to spend two weeks with my son while he recovers from a knee re-construction..
these two pot holders are from left over blocks from other Aussie Hero quilts
and these mug rugs are also left over blocks from past Aussie Hero quilts
trying to used up some of the bits and pieces around my sewing room... less to pack up when the day comes to start packing for real...
OH and I won a give away woohoo photo's soon...

Learning To Read A Pattern...

I have for a long time wanted to crochet a ''ripple rug'' but just couldn't work it out and even though I have been crocheting since I was about 10 yrs old I have never learnt to read a crochet pattern or know the name of the stitches... so a while back I bought a book that was called ''learn to crochet'' well let me say the instructions aren't that %*##^$ easy to understand... and then the Better Homes and Garden had a pattern in it and geez that was just as %*##^$ hard to understand... and Barb makes the most wonderful rugs here and here and here and I just wanted to make one too... so I decided to search the web and found this and it is a step by step with pictures to show you a very simple way to learn and I am so happy to have found it because look what I have been doing...
it's a practise one and it will be a baby rug... I had some left over white and a bit of yellow... so now that I have sort of mastered this pattern I am feeling like buying some more wool and starting a bigger one... big smile happening here... cheeks hurting... hahahahaha
and I have also finished my Birdie Stitches blocks...
think butter yellow or buttery orange for sashings...
and my boy will be having his knee re-construction on the 26th June
maybe that is a good time to start a new ripple rug hehehehe...

Much To Show You... Lots Of Photo's...

I am well and truly over my ''lurgy'' and madly sewing to catch up with a couple of swaps that I am in and one I was a weeny bit late with but hopefully once it arrives I am forgiven...
one swap I am in with an online group is the "Winter Wonderland Swap" (how miss of me I forgot to say who the parcel was from.... the wonderful, generous, kind hearted Jeanette thank you so much for my gifts)
and I received my parcel this week
this gorgeous wall hanging
and I will be saving for my new home
and assortment of delicious drinking chocolate
one of my very favourite foods ''cadbury's''
and
some hand cream to keep the hands soft for feeling beautiful fabrics...
oh and this very wonderful mug rug
and the photo does it no justice boohoo as it is really awesome...
and this is my belated ''winter wonderland'' parcel
that is winging its way to a new home
this month I had 2 partners for the QBSA
Erin wished for a ''Road to California" in any colour so I chose orange and grey
which is apparently trendy right now... I must admit I do like this combo...
and my second partner is Helen and she wished for the ''double hourglass"
in and colour plus white
looks quite good a little fiddly to make but the end result is effective...
these I purchased on a recent trip to Perth to be made into Aussie themed quilts for the soldiers... you can find out more here please go check out the site and help if you can...
these I purchased from the Fat Quarter Shop
a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait to start some of these... aren't the runners just awesome...

and the projects in here are gorgeous...

these I purchased from the ''Red Boot Quilt Company" I have been waiting for the ''rabbits'' to come out since I first saw the quilt... the bear wall hanging was a freebie...
oh and I loved these greys so I just had to have them hehehe...
I am loving all things grey at the moment...
I finished this little rug which is made with thick wool and is so soft... I have put it away for a rainy day... it will be quite good for a snuggle rug for a baby...
see I told ya I had heaps of photo's...
I am working on a ''round robin table topper'' at the moment... doing the hand stitching... I am also thinking of what to do next out of my WIP list...
firstly I am off to Perth tomorrow to go to the surgeon with my son as he has done his knee playing football...
